About the Author
George C. Gordon, of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted as a 30 year old Captain in the 24th Michigan Infantry Company I on July 26, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 15. On July 1, 1863, Gordon was taken prisoner at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was confined at Macon, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. He escaped confinement on February 14, 1865 at Columbia, South Carolina. For gallant and meritorious service, Gordon was promoted to Major by Brevet on March 13. George C. Gordon was discharged on June 30 at Detroit, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
