About the Author

Enlisting in the 1st Michigan Infantry at the age of 19, Private Francis D. Frost joined Company F on July 26, 1861 at Ionia, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day. On June 27, 1862, Francis D. Frost was discharged from service at Portsmouth, Virginia due to the amputation of his leg.
