While residing in Newton, Michigan, John K. Fisher enlisted in the 7^th Michigan Cavalry Company A on September 20, 1862. He was mustered into service as a 19 year old Private on October 13. Fisher was listed as being wounded on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. John K. Fisher was discharged from service on December 15, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
