About the Author
At the age of 23, James Ferry of Kalamazoo, Michigan enlisted as a Private in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company I on August 21, 1861. He was mustered into service on September 7 and he re-enlisted on February 2, 1864. At Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, he was captured on July 3, 1863. Ferry was promoted to Sergeant and Corporal in February of 1864. He transferred from Company I to Company L on February 15 and then from Company L to Company A on September 12, 1865. Salt Lake City, Utah was where he was discharged on September 12. After the war, he lived in Tillamook County, Oregon where he died and is buried.Documents for this Author:
