About the Author
Private Frederick J. Fairbrass of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company I on September 9, 1861. He was mustered into service that same day. Fairbrass was discharged for promotion on March 14, 1863 and was commissioned into the 1st Michigan Light Artillery Batty L. He received several promotions including: Quartermaster Sergeant, January 1, 1862; 2nd Lieutenant (Senior), November 3, 1862; 1st Lieutenant (Senior), September 14, 1863; Captain by Brevet, March 13, 1865; and, Major by Brevet, March 13, 1865. Frederick J. Fairbrass was discharged from service on July 31, 1865 at Detroit, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
