About the Author

David O. Dodd was a telegraph operator in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was convicted of being a Confederate spy on January 5, 1864. Evidence used in court included a notebook that Dodd carried. He also refused to tell the court who his friend, a traitor in the Federal army was. General Frederick Steele believed that the information in the notebook could only be obtained with the help of that friend. David O. Dodd was hanged at Little Rock, Arkansas on January 8.
