About the Author
At the age of 19, Hobart H. Chipman, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, enlisted as a Sergeant in the 6th Michigan Cavalry Company F on September 18, 1862. He was mustered into service on October 13 and was later promoted to 1st Sergeant. On October 11, 1863, Chipman was listed as missing at Brandy Station, Virginia. His other promotions included 1st Lieutenant on October 22 and Captain on December 10, 1864. Hobart H. Chipman was discharged from service on November 24, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.Documents for this Author:
