About the Author
Jacob Carris was residing in Marshall, Michigan when he enlisted in the 9th Michigan Infantry on August 14, 1861 at Owosso, Michigan. He was mustered into Company F as a 34-year old Sergeant on October 15. Carris received several promotions including: 1st Sergeant, July 18, 1862; Commissary Sergeant, February 12, 1863; 2nd Lieutenant of Company I, April 9; 1st Lieutenant of Company K, October 13; and, Captain of Company H, November 23, 1864. He re-enlisted in the 9th Michigan Infantry on January 21 at Detroit, Michigan. Jacob Carris was discharged from service on September 15, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.Documents for this Author:
