About the Author
Thornton F. Brodhead was born on December 5, 1820 in South Newmarket, New Hampshire. He was residing in Grosse Isle, Michigan when he enlisted as a Colonel in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Field and Staff on August 22, 1861. He was mustered into service that same day at the age of 40. Brodhead was promoted to Brigadier General by Brevet on August 20, 1862 and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Second Bull Run in Virginia. Thornton F. Brodhead died of wounds on September 2 at Alexandria, Virginia.Documents for this Author:
