About the Author
John C. Black, of Barry County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 8th Michigan Infantry Company B on August 26, 1861 at Lowell, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 23 on September 23. On June 15, 1862, Black was promoted to Brigade Wagoner. He re-enlisted on December 29, 1863 and was promoted to Corporal on July 1, 1865. John C. Black was discharged from service on July 30, 1865 at Washington, D.C.Documents for this Author:
