About the Author
Francis Marion Bishop, of Marquette, Michigan, enlisted at the age of 18 as a Corporal in the 1st Michigan Infantry Company I on July 31, 1861. On July 17, 1862, Bishop was promoted to Sergeant Major and transferred into Field and Staff. He was then transferred to Company E when promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on August 30. He became a 1st Lieutenant on September 23 and was wounded on December 13 at Fredericksburg, Virginia. On February 21, 1865, he was commissioned into the Veteran Reserve Corps. On that same day, Bishop was promoted to Captain and commissioned into the 2nd U.S. Volunteers Infantry Company H. Francis Marion Bishop was discharged from service on November 7.Documents for this Author:
