Residing in Branch County, Michigan, Private Joseph Billingsley (1843-1864) enlisted at the age of 18 in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery Batty A on May 28, 1861 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day. On September 19, 1863, Billingsley was taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia. Joseph Bilingsley died of disease and diarrhea as a prisoner of war on August 29, 1864 at Andersonville, Georgia. He was buried at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia at gravesite 7227.Documents for this Author:
