About the Author
James T. Bernard, of St. Clair County, Michigan, enlisted in the 14th Michigan Infantry Company H as a Private on October 20, 1861 at Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was mustered into service on January 7, 1862 at the age of 20. On December 7, Bernard was promoted to Clerk at the Division Headquarters. He re-enlisted on February 4, 1864 at Columbia, Tennessee. His other promotions included Quartermaster Sergeant on February 4, 1865 and 2nd Lieutenant on July 7. James T. Bernard was discharged from service on July 18 at Louisville, Kentucky.Documents for this Author:
