About the Author
Sergeant Harrison Berdan, of Canton, Michigan, enlisted in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company H on August 29, 1862 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service on August 20 at the age of 33 and was later promoted to 1st Sergeant. Berdan’s other promotions included: 2nd Lieutenant, October 24, 1863; 1st Lieutenant, October 27, 1864; and, Captain of Company I, March 1, 1865. On May 5, 1864, he was listed as being wounded at Wilderness, Virginia. He was transferred from Company H to Company I on February 1, 1865. Harrison Berdan was discharged on June 23 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.Documents for this Author:
