About the Author
William True Bennett was born on October 1, 1836 in Union City, Michigan. When he was 28 years old, he enlisted in the 1st Michigan Colored Infantry, field and staff as a Lieutenant Colonel on April 14, 1864. He was mustered in on that same day. On December 18, he was mustered into the 33rd Connecticut Infantry, field and staff and was also promoted to Colonel. May 25, 1865 marks the day that Bennett was promoted to Brigadier General by Brevet and he was later discharged on May 10, 1866. William True Bennett died on March 10, 1910 in Los Angeles, California.Documents for this Author:
