About the Author
Julian H. Axtell, of Mount Clemens, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 1st Michigan Infantry Company B on July 9, 1861 in Flint, Michigan. He was mustered into service on July 22 at the age of 22. On December 25, 1863, Axtell re-enlisted and was promoted to 1st Sergeant. Axtell was wounded on May 15, 1864 at an unknown location and he was also wounded on March 31, 1865 at Five Forks, Virginia. He was transferred from Company B to Company H on May 30 and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant that same day. Julian H. Axtell was discharged from service on July 9 at Jeffersonville, Indiana.Documents for this Author:
