President held at Stevensburg Va by virtue of Genl Order No 41 of Dec 24th 1863 from Head
Quarters 3
rd Division C.C. was arraigned and tried: Private

Cavalry on the following charges:
Charge 1st Desertion
Charge 2nd Absence without Leave
Finding Not Guilty of the 1
st Charge
but Guilty of the 2nd Charge
Sentence To be confined in the custtody of the Division Provost for a period of thirty
days, the first ten days on bread and water, to forfeit all pay of January 1
st 1864 and also five
dollars a month of his monthly pay for a period of four months from January 1 1864. Mich.
II Before the same Court was arraignd and tried:
Private Randall Hart Co G 7th Mich Cavalry on
the following Charge:
Charge Desertion
Finding Guilty of Absence without Leave
Sentence To make good out of his monthly pay all charges incurred in his arrest, and
return to his Regiment, and be confined on bread and water ten days n the custody of the
Division Provost Marshall.

Sentence To be reduced to the ranks, to refund to the United States out of his monthly
pay all charges and expenses incurred in arresting him, and returning him to his Regiment, and
in addition to be confined ten days on bread and water in the custody of the Division Provost
Marshall

Cavalry on the following Charge:

Finding Guilty
Sentence To have the right side of his head closely shaved by the Division Provost
Marshall in the presence of the 1
st Brigade or such portion of it as can be conveniently
assembled at such time and place as the General Comd’g 3
rd Division C.C. may appoint: to do
fatigue duty on his Regiment for a period of sixty days from date of execution of above order;
to forfeit all pay and allowance due at the time of his arrest, also one half of his monthly pay
for a period of twelve months from January 1
st 1864, to make good to the Government out of
his pay all expenses incurred in arresting him and returning him to his Regiment, and to make
good the time he was absent from the service according to section 18 Act of Congress of March
16
th 1862.
