Regiment: 2nd Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp Lincoln June 21 1862 Dear Friend It is a long time since I heard from you & some time since I wrote. Tell the folks that when we get in a different place that I will write to them for it is most impossible for me to write here for we have to go on picket most every day & get up two or three times a night if there is alarm given. Then is not much going on here now. The rebels threw a few shells over here yesterday & some this morning. We have got rifle pits & forts thrown up all along here for a good many miles & the woods all cut down in front of us. It is about 7 miles to Richmond. We are camped on the battlefield where they commenced on Casy Division. I thought that I would send you a few dollars to keep for me if I should ever live to get back if you should not want to use it, so no more. Good Bye from W. Thayer
