Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Monday Afternoon Dec 26th ‘64 Dear friend Nettie, Your kind and welcome yet unexpected letter has been recieved and perused by me I was very glad indeed to hear from you by the way of a letter and improve this my earliest opportunity to answer it We done our ironing this forenoon don’t you think we were smart to get it done the Monday forenoon I will tell you how we came to be so smart we washed Saturday Seibbi has just washed the dinner dishes + Martha is writing a letter I don’t know who too but I suppose it is so some of “Uncle Sams” boys I think it would be just like her dont you well Nettie I suppose you have heard before this that we have conclu ded not to come home during vacation so your folks need not come down on purpose for us although we would have no objections to their making us a visit and we would like firstrate to have you and Thommy come and see us if you could as we learn that your Teacher has given you a vacation too, we should have come home with the young folks that were down to see us Friday evening but Martha did not like to go so far in the cold for it makes her so lame if you do come down or your folks will you go up to Mrs Frosts and get my crutches and bring them down here for Martha for the Dr says he can help her much faster if she does not bear much wright on that foot and the cold weather makes her rather tamer than usual if you don’t come perhaps our folks will and you can send by them we expect to have a real nice time staying at home this week Mary has been down to see us and she scolded us enough to pay up for our not wri ting to her give my love to all the little girls I think of them very often and would write some to Saty & [   ?   ] if there was school so you would see them when you see them till them that I would like to see them very much and would like to have them come down here I will now draw this letter to a close hoping we may see or hear from you soon.
