Dear Sister Mariette
Not at home
yet but I expect to be
some time if ever we are camped
in the Barracks at fort Negley
and have to work five hours
a day on fort confiscation you must
judge for your self whether we
work very hard or not in the
[ ? ] of peace, but you may
believe that we dont work
very hard. I was very glad to
to hear from you, as it is
the first letter that I have
recd since I left Washington
I begun to think that you
were all dead or thought that
I was at from or so near it
that there wasent no use of
writing but I was sory to
hear that it was because
you was out of money but
if you get out of money again
go home and get some on expence
for I sent home $100 dollars the
other day. I am glad to hear
that so many of the boys are
getting home safe and I am glad
to hear that you enjoyed
your self the 4
th for I enjoyed
my self firstrate. I was down
town most all day and stayed
to the theater at night? But
I had rather have been at
home, it was about the warmerst
day that I ever saw. I havent
see the boys in Co H. since we
came here but they were well
the last time i saw them
George and Theodore and myself
are well that I am sure
of, and George thinks that
you had better be writing
to him before long or he
will write to you. I saw
[ ? ] Oh and Albert Monroe while
we were in nashville. They were
well, but they dident like it
much because they were transfered
from the 21
st regt into the 10
th
but I suppose that they are
mustered out now and I
saw Calmon Carpenter, he
acts quite like a gentleman
to what he use to, I hope
that the army has made
a man of him. I cant
think of any more to write this
time and trusting that you
will answer this as soon as you
you get it I will close
