Henry E. Taintor, of Windham, Connecticut, enlisted in the 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery Company A on January 14, 1864. He was mustered into service as a Private that same day. Taintor was transferred from Company A to Field and Staff on November 8 and was later transferred to Company B on June 15, 1865. He was a member of several Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) posts in Connecticut (CT), including: #2 (Nathaniel Lyon) in Hartford; #4 (Albert W. Drake) in South Manchester; #22 (Stedman) in Hartford; and #50 (Robert O. Tyler) in Hartford. Taintor also held several offices in the GAR Department of Connecticut including: Assistant Adjutant General from 1869 to 1873; Judge Advocate in 1875; Council of Administration from 1880 to 1881; Senior Vice Commander for Post #50 for 1882; Commander for Post #50 from 1883 to 1884; Junior Vice Commander for 1885; Senior Vice Commander for 1886. After the war, Henry E. Taintor lived in Hartford, Connecticut where he died on August 31, 1904.
