Grant March the 27 1865 camp near Stevensb Va Dear wife it is with pleasure that inow sit down to wright afew lines to you to let you know that iam well at present and hope thes few lines may find you the same we have verry fine wether here at present but it has been verry rough ireceived alettr from you last night and it was agreat pleasure to me to hear from one ilove so well you must reme mber that reading your letters is the greatest part of my enjoymet down here and it seems to be the case with the most of the boys here for they think more of aletter than anything else it is pur happyness to hear from loved ones so far away but idont want you to think by this that that iam homesick for ihave never felt the least bit homesick since ilift Jackson and idonot think ishall as long as iam sincere in the blief that iam engaged in agood cause and that ican trust in God to bear me out in doing so iexpect to have some hard fighting here soon it is generaly believed here that this summer will put an end to the war and the army of the potomac will do the most of the fighting genal Grant has command her now and gener Webb has comand of this corps and he has two little twin girls about 4 years old and they are very handsome they make me think of my own dear children that imy never see again but iwill trust God for that irote you yesterday and sent you forty dollars and iwant you should right as soon as you can and let now whether you got the money or not because it will be some time before ican send any more [On Envelope:] Mrs George Phelps Danville Ingham Co Michigan Phelps
