John Davidson, of St. Clair County, Michigan, enlisted as a 1st Sergeant in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry Company K on August 2, 1861 at Port Huron, Michigan. He was mustered into service on October 5 at the age of 44. John Davidson was discharged for disability on June 11, 1862 at Detroit, Michigan.
