Algiers La. July the 31st, 1865 Dearest Mary, I seat myself this evening to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope that this will find you well also. I do not think I can write much for I do not know of anything that would interest you. There has been no change in what we are doing. I have not heard any thing more about going to Texas or rather to the island at the mouth of the Rio Grand so I do not know what will be done but I hardly think that we will go till the one year CO goes out if we have to go at all.

New Orleans, La May the 30th, 1865 Dearest Mary, I once more seat myself to answer your most welcome letter which came to hand last week. I was sorry that your health was not good but I hope that you may be enjoying good health by this time. My health is good except a bad cold but I think I shall soon be well of that. You said that you did not get a letter the week before you wrote.

New Orleans, La March the 27th, 1865 Dearest Mary, My health is good this evening and I hope that yours is also. I can only hope so as it will be so long before I can hear from you. This is the sixth letter that I have wrote you and I expect that I will write two or three more before your letters will get here. It will almost seem an age, Dear May, before I can get one of your letters which I so much covet but I will try and wait with patience till the slow mails bring them and try to write at least once a week to you

Cincinnati, Ohio March 6th/65 Dearest Mary, I have just returned from a pass into the City which Ralph has so kind to procure for me on the fourth which lasted till today at 3 o’clock P. M. but I have not saw him since he brought the pass to me though I called at his office twice to see him but he happened to be away both times so I reckon he thinks I am very ungrateful for not calling to see him after he was at the trouble of going to the Generals and getting me a pass.
