F, Engineers and Mechanics Camp Tillton Station Georgia July 6th 1864 To Miss Clark As I being lonsome in camp alone I though I would amuse my selfe by sending a few lines to you and hoping they will find you and the children all well Mr. Van told me about taft I expected it I supose that they think that you have no right only pay just wat they say but thank God I do no it all and why not a man [  ?  ] wat is some ware right I am sorry that it apended so as Mr Van to have any words with him I only ope that he does beleive me for it is the truth if ever I spohe the truth and you no time thing about it but I new verry well that I could not get off it oping it is all over and it is all [       ?       ] and I expecp that it will keep so for you now if they get a man down kick him and let him go lower if I had been at home it would have been sett led before this and there is a nother thing I hear that you got a ring but not how it fit you I do not supose that we can get any shells hear for we cant go out and see for it is a verry bad country round hear two miles from as the rebbs cought a train of fifty cars and burnt them they ware lead ed with rations for the soldiers it is estimated a loss of halfe million dollars but I have learnt no view statement as I sent to you for a casstle if you have got one do not send it yet if you have not done for to day I draided your comb a way for a casstle and do not send me no more coambs unless I send for them I [  ?  ] one that I paid ten cents for in Detroit that fitts my pocket book as I would not [  ?  ] for one dozen like that you must excuse me for I have got some water standing besides me in the floor and my paper as flone in it and I must give you great thank for my new hat it is a first rate one and everyone likes it a five dollar hat is no ware be the side of it now you must mind and be cotious and not let the supervisor catch your for if he stops your pay I shall to you keep your selfe to your sife and do not make your selfe to Buissey with other people about my buisness by no one and you can try and fight along with the pig and kill him hearly and you will find that it will be for better thents sell it and I cant emagin wat you are going to do with the cow through the winter if I could only buy a small stable andy I would like it verry much or buy a lot of some disserrption or you must get Mr Van to get her kept with some Honest farmer all winter for if she be a good cow and a nise one I beg of you not to part with her upon no consideration for that ware the reasion as I wanted her and may it be ly a nother winter we can have a plase for her some ware there is no telling about things and I think you might see Mr Van and let him get you potatoes and such stuff as you want from the farmers as I persume they how in and will let him have it before you and you be sure and pay him for when I come home I do not want bills standing against me I would like to no how you get along with Perrin and if you trade there or not and wat they say I rote to him some time a go but I received no answer from him as yet and he owed me fifty cents as I had forgot for they do not need to think as I for got and I want to ask you if you are going to send your likeness now or no with your fine fish. Shelling on if I can get mine took I shall have my new hat on it but you must not get next at my talk for I told you how I rote and I cant see you to fall hout urh you good buy yours William Slater
