Regiment: 1st Michigan Engineers Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Nashville Tenn August 11th 1865 Dear Friend How ar you by this time well I suppose and enjoying your self highly I suppose I am well or nearly so and passing the time as best I can which aint in any particular way some times reading stories some times one thing and some times an other and non rather usefull nor very pleasant but it is the only way I have to do [  ?  ] I have to make the best of it but thare is something a going to be did now pretty soon for the work is done and they are returning the tools to the post Quartermaster I think we will go some whare next weak and the general belief is we are going to Michigan but some think we will go to work on the Rail Road but I think we will go North I hope so any way and we will be apt to know before long any way the ninth Michigan are relieved from duty and are going home in a few days. I don’t know whether the tenth Cavelry has gone home yet or not but I guess not I was down town town last night to the sircus and [  ?  ] it was pretty good what thare was of it but thare wasent much of it thare wasent many animals and the riding wasent as good as I have seen at the rapids it was advertised for a big thing but falls short of the mark. it is awful warm weather here to warm for comfort we haven’t had any rain since I can remember hardly I think you must have had a very nice time the last day of your school notwithstanding the rain and I would have given a right [  ?  ]  to have been thare but fate or some body else halled it other wise so I could not come you must not expect me to write as long a letter as you did for thare isent a particle of news going only talk of going home and that is all camp talk some of our Furloughed men got back last night they say that it is good times up in Michigan Sogers in every corner, give my love to all the family tell Harley he had best to write to me or I will make it lively for him when I do get home tell Mother not to get sick a gan this fall for as you said it aint prudent nor paying business write soon from your sincere friend George [On Envelope:] Miss Maryette Hutchins Berlin Ottawa Co Michigan
