Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: 27th Grand Rapids Sept Dear Father                 1861 I take this opportunity to answer your letters. which I recieved last night they both came to- gether the one dated the 25th was opened by mistake but it came all right, Frank has been telling an awfull story down there it seems, the boys dont like it much. I told Frank when he went away to tell thing just as they were. I told the boys he would tell a darned lie and as for our fairing hard & being misused it is no such thing our food is just as good as I expected ther boys are all well and in good spirits Hank say he weighs 10* more than he Did when he left home I am geting as fat as a hog the boys all like it first rate they would not come home that is for good by any means. Frank has talk all the while as though he wanted to get out of it. We all calculate to come home to the fair if we can get off and I guess we can our Lieutenant said we he would give us a pass, we are not sworn in yet and I cant tell when we will be. I cant tell when the the rigiment will they we may stay 1 week & we may stay 3 or 4 weeks, I wrote a letter to lib B yesterday she says it is awful lonesome in homer. I have written one letter home before this and I thought I never was agoing to get any answer but it is all right now. we are all enjoying our selves well and have a good time. Ira is writing home he got 2 letters last night and I got 3 Chan 1 Hank 2 & Ordley 1 if any of our boys are home sick or want to get out of it. it is Frank Hooker, we have got our bunks fixed up nice as a bed room we sleep like pigs in the clover. we have beans one day and cabbage the next and beef the next besides Good bread & potatoes I shall have to close my letter by bidding you all Good bye We are coming home to the fair I think next week some time any how Yours In Return CH Potter
