Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Head Quarters 2nd Batt. 2nd Michigan Cavalry. Lebanon Nov 22nd 1862 Dear Father     Munfordsville I take this opportunity to write a few lines to you to let you know how we are gettting along. it has been a long time since I have heard from home the fact is our Battallion is not with the Regiment now and we have not received any mail Since we left New Haven. we are now at a place called Munfordsville and will probably stay here all winter I hope so because we have very comfortable quarters & a pleasant camping grounds we have new tents and our company has divided into four Squads and each Squad looks out for themselves we calculate we have got the best Squad of the four. we have got the best cook Eleven men in a Squad and two meals a day onley. but they are clippers I tell you chicken pop pies and all. Sorts of nice fixing we get our corn ground & draw some flour now. I think if we stay here all winter we shall get along finely. it has been nearly five months Since we have drawn any pay we have been expecting it evry day for a long time I dont know what we would have done if it had not been for poor money there has been any quantity of Mich igan money here & it sails just as well as the best kind of money for chickens and Sweet and Irish potatoes Apples, pies & cakes. the boys just came in with a bag of Apples & a bag of Potatoes & 1 ½ bushel of dreied Apples. my health is that of the best and Lew is in the same fix. Chancy Hayes is on the gain he does no duty yet. Alex Darrow is well and getting fat. Chandler & Wing are in the Hospital yet they was the last time we heard from them Chan said he expected to get his discharge. I received a letter from Frank Hooker telling of Grand fathers death and all the news. Frank dont think of enlisting again does he has Jack Champion enlisted yet we dont hear about them lately Bill Greff is another one. the most of our new recruits kinder gave out it is rather to tough work Soldiering they say. I will except Leck Darrow for he stands it first rate. we went out a foraging the other day with major Edward Potter an Ohio man he things the michigan boys are all right and they think he is the same I reckon I saw his name on his [   ?   ] Jack and I was a going to claim him as some of my kin. well I think it is near time I was bringing my letter to a close. I would like to have you send me some more postage stamps and Alexander Darrow has sent for a box of things if you could get a good pair of buck skin Gloves and send them in with his things I would save a considerable for gloves here cost from two to three Dollars a pair & it is getting rather cold weather. We had a little snow last month one night none since and no mud yet to speak of our camp is on the back of Green River a splendid, nice, stream, the Rail Road Bridge at this place is some 127 feet high and 80 rods in lengths Bert Spaulding says he remembers your parting words the last time he saw you and he says he has kept it as well as he could. five my best respects to all the Homer people and write as soon as you get this. From your Son. Charles H. Potter Munfordsville. Ky.
