Rosecrans Nashville, Tennessee July 13th, 1863 Dear Sister I have just received your kind letter and I was glad to hear that you ware all well I am hapy to inform you that I am well at Present and I hope these few lines will find you all they Same I am very thankful to you for writing to mee I supose it is a busy time with farmers now in Michigan you did not mention wether Walter had Commensed his baying yet or not I supose it is all most harvest now in Michigan I I saw Wheat in They Shack in this State on they fifteenth day of June I was glad to hear that Hannah had received they ten dolars I sent to her in a letter I want to let mee know if Shee gets they ten dollars at Robert Startlale that I told her about and if Shee gets it I want her to writeto mee right off and let me know all about it I sent a box to her by Express But you did not say weather Shee ever received it or not Now Abby I want you to send me yours and little ldas likenes and I want Hannah to send me abbys and hers I supose this Draft will make some of the Boys Run for Canada But they will not make aney diferance to mee But I hope they will take some of these Coperheads that are balking so much against they army in they field for it is hard for they soldier to stake his life and then have they Coperheads blowing about government and they War I should like to know what thare farms would worth to them if those Southerners Ware to conker our forces I assure you that I have seen enuf of thare conduct in Kentucky last Spring whare they had a little rule for a short period They took horses and cattle and all some famleys had to Eat So you see they are a hard harted Set of men if they onley cold get they a little they even took Blankets of they beds and tore up carpets and made blankets for themselves with them They have aoubt Seven Hundred Rebbel Prisoners heare in States Prison they brought in one hundred and twenty to day from Murfreesboro and they are sending them in every day and sending them to Camp Chase in Ohio General Rosencrance his making they Rebbels Skedadle out of Tennessee and a great maney of them are Diserting thare Ranks and Say they are Willing to Enlist into our Army They Say that have been foursed into they Rebbel Armey and they will not tight any longer than they can make Escape into our lines I heard one Old Gray headed Rebble say that it was no youse of fighting they yankeys bee also remarked that they Suthem Confedersey had friseld out bee Said they Suthem People had been deceived by thare leaders and made to believe that they cold whip us in six months But they have found out that our Armey are better anned and equiped and better drilled than they was a year ago and Wee still have Plenty of supplies and men ware they Rebbels ware runing Short of men and Provisions now I hope these few lines will each you Safe I want you to let me know if you have heard from your Fathers folks and if you have heard from Eve and Joe oraney of your folks latley so give my love to Walter and tell him to let me know how things are looking in general I shall have to close by Remaing Your Trulcy as ever from Your Brother William Painter Please write as soon as you get
