March 7th 1865 Dear Colonel I was pleased by the receipt of a letter from you dated Feb 26th it came to hand on the morning of the 5th [ ? ] On making inquiry about the regimental mail I was informed it had been forwarded on Tuesday last it has now been gone one week The first intimation of an order relieving all officers and men to join the regiment was your letter I for one am ready to join the regiment when the order comes If you need me I will say I am anxious to join you The position I have now is anything but an easy one at the same time I have no complaints to make but am Satisfied with it Col. if you want me with the rgt. make appication to Gen. Crawford and I have no doubt he would comply with the request – I assure you if he does not it will be no fault of mine. I spoke to him as you requested he told me he did not understand it but would look into the matter He requested me to thank you for the kind words in your letter – and to day that he sends his most kind regards Maj. Baird is in civil life he resigned. he leaves sometime this week The old Brigade has a new regt. in it the 91 st –vols when all its men are with it it is about 1900 strong w heavy artillery We had a review to day Gen Meade was the reviewing officer it was very creditable to the Divis The Staff send their regards Col : [ ? ] especially Give my regards to all the Officers and men of the regt my Company in particular I remain your sincere “Friend” R.S.
