Regiment: 1st U.S. Volunteers Sharpshooters Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Mortown Oct 9 1861 Absent Son we rec your letter Oct 1 we were very glad to hear from you again we are all well as usual I have spun ton knotts to night the folks have been to H Hower to [ ? ] father has just got home I thought I would set up and talk to you. a little while but you dont say any thing. but are [ ? ] women and [ ? ] are some alike all [ ? ] but guess you answer me when you get ready you [ ? ] did. I hope you will try to take care of yourself be careful of your health I hope this wicked war will soon close and your life preserved that you may return and gladen our home once more what do you think the prospect is. I often think of your long lost Brother think if he is living he may be in the war from Maine what happiings if for me if you should meet after 12 long years of separation I not [ ? ] hope for such joy but it aint inpossible perhaps your trunk came all safe I care of the things till you come if you ever do. if your health fails you come if possible. Joseph Parker worked some here two years ago went to Con Connecticut he enlisted in 2 reg [ ? ] for three months we have not heard from him since the 5 of July his time [ ? ] most out he thought he should enlist in the NY rt Lawrence Co I fear he is among the missing if you hear any thing of him please write Frank and Amanda if went from here last monday it said she should write when she got home her health is not very good, [ ? ] I cant think it ever will be she works to hard I think I dont think of any more to write all with much love from all write when you can if only a few word may the Lord preserve you from all danger is the daily prayer of your motherB. Dear Brother I seat myself to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope you the same I went up to Uncle [ ? ] yesterday and carried your last letter Ant [ ? ] thought that it was a good letter and, Alonzo [ ? ] was to have went back to Northfield, Epprain talks a gooddeal about you a coming home and the war and so do the rest of us to I donot think of eny more this time so I will close by saying good by My love and best respect E E M C [On Envelope:] Mr Gardner B.
