About the Author
On August 14, 1862, Private George H. Sowle, of Essex, Michigan, enlisted in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company G. He was mustered into service on August 28 at the age of 18. Sowle was taken prisoner on August 14, 1863 at Falmouth, Virginia and was held until December 27. George H. Sowle was discharged on June 22, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He lived in St. Johns, Michigan after the war.Documents for this Author:
