About the Author

Corporal William A. Louks enlisted at the age of 20 in the 56^th Ohio Infantry Company A on October 17, 1861.  He was mustered into service that same day.  On May 1, 1863, he was wounded at Port Gibson, Mississippi.  William A. Louks was discharged as a Private on April 25, 1866 at New Orleans, Louisiana.
