About the Author
John W. Kingscott, of Warren, Michigan, enlisted in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry Company H as a 1st Sergeant on August 24, 1861. He was mustered into service on October 2 at the age of 38. Kingscott was transferred several times from: Company H to Company I, November 23, 1863; Company I to Company A, June 7, 1864; and, Company A to Company H, September 15, 1864. His promotions included: 2nd Lieutenant, March 1863; 1st Lieutenant, October 1, 1862; Quartermaster, April 15, 1863; Acting Brigade Quartermaster, July 15, 1863; Acting Assistant Commander, December 15, 1863; Acting Regiment Quartermaster, May 15, 1864; Captain, June 7, 1864; and, Acting Assistant Quartermaster, January 15, 1865. John W. Kingscott was discharged from service on December 27, 1865 at Detroit, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
