About the Author
At the age of 35, Levi T. Griffin, of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Michigan Cavalry Company C on August 13, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 28. Griffin was transferred to different companies that included: Company C to Company I, January 20, 1863; Company I to Company G, March 30, 1863; Company G to Field and Staff, April 15, 1863; and, Field and Staff to Company I, April 1, 1864. Promotions that he received included: 2nd Lieutenant, December 18, 1862; 1st Lieutenant, February 1, 1863; Adjutant, April 15, 1863; Captain, February 25, 1864; and, Major by Brevet, March 13, 1865. From September 1864 to May 1865, Griffin served as the 2nd Cavalry Division’s Acting Assistant Adjutant General. Levi T. Griffin was discharged on July 1 at Nashville, Tennessee.Documents for this Author:
