About the Author

Hubbard Franklin, of Oakland, Michigan, enlisted at the age of 19 as a Private in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery Batty H on September 12, 1864 at Pontiac, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day and was listed as joining his battery on October 25 at Atlanta, Georgia. Hubbard Franklin was discharged from service on July 21, 1865 and resided in Hartland, Michigan after the war.
