About the Author

Daniel Coy, of Van Buren County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 3rd Michigan Cavalry Company A on September 3, 1861. He was mustered into service at the age of 22 on October 3. Coy was discharged on July 24, 1862. On August 21, he enlisted and was mustered into the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Company C. Daniel Coy was discharged from service on August 3, 1865. He lived in Paw Paw, Michigan after the war.
