Don’t read this before anybody
Dear Wife,
I wrote a few lines to you last night which I mailed this morning. I also sent you dime song book and one Harpers Weekly newspaper. I sent you a book from Springfield. I thought you would like them coming from me. I have not yet any news from home, yet I expect to get a letter from you tonight.
Our Sergeant Major has gone to Nashville today to get the mail.
I want you to write all the particulars of home I want you to keep all the money you have in your posesion till I come home only what you made for your comfort all the rest keep in your pocket for I shall git a furlo to come home before long tell me if all gits any of your leters before you do I donte right as I would if I though no body but my deaer amy would see them if you can send lon to the ofice and get my leters I would like it and would want you to let no one see or know what I right if you did it you must rite to lyman and tell him not to send them by any one but Alonzo if you do so rite and let me know it let me know what all has done with his mother and what he is doing and if you have got anything from the relief fund yet
We leave here at one o’clock today for a place City Cave direct your leter to amos gibbs Co g 28 mich infantry via Louisville kentucky Remember this is private to you my dear and loving wife. I am bound to see you before long if alive and have my health. If you want me to make my letters better, send me a copy of both capital and common letters and I will try and imitate them as near as I can. I am anxious to learn to write.
My dear I do expect to meet you again before long. This Rebellion is not going to last long. April month will see the last of it as far as fighting is concerned. There will guerrillas a good while after that. The folks here is sick of the war. I don’t think what peace will be restored in 8 months from now, but I will see you before that time I reckon.
