It gives me great pleasure
to learn that Clark Hillebert
has changed his course. Please
give my compliments to him
and wife and say to them that
I should be glad to hear from them
by letter and that I will promptly
respond. You say in for
not being more punctual in writing
that everything goes along the same
all of the time and there is nothing new
to write! On the same principle you
might as well write of your prais
and exertations for the prair meeting
and post a copy on the school house door
or to answer for 6 months without
having to go to church at all. Please
try it next Sunday or tell
Brother or Sister to remember
what you said last Sunday and
think and while they are at
church you can write to me.
Perhaps you are not aware that
the comfort and contentment and
hapiness of a Volunteer Soldier depends
in a great degree upon and are
governed by the interest that his friends
at home take in him and the course for
which he is giving his time and recking
his life But it is not to be expected that
those who are at home surrounded by
friend and comforative luxuries
would feel any slight apparent
neglec on the part of friends or those
who see no one who is bound to them
by the ties of conjanguinity
Our Rations are one pound of bread
per day 2 cups of coffee pork or beef
2 and sometimes 3 times a day
and that is so much better than we
have sometimes had that we think
it first rate
and we find no fault.
Give my compliments to Bro
Dean and if you can’t find any
thing to write next Sunday give me
a full description of him his age tallents
politics and whether he is a Lecyk
Abolitionist Democrat or Republican.
If I ever possessed any rabid abolition
proclivity I have lost them or
buried them beneathe the rebelion
only to be thought of when the last
vestage of it is removed.
My motto being freedom to the
Rebels as well as the confiscation
of other property and constitutional
rights to Loyal Slaveholders.
Brother you ask if I want you
to pay my taxes? I think
that my ought to pay that
If it cannot do a little in that line
I think it best to have it locked up.
But if it cannot and you have no
of mine in your hands
I want you to pay it and forward
he bill and it Shall be promptly
forwarded. Nephew paid
all that was due from him including
the reclaiming of that Counterfiet
$5-00 bill if there are any bills unpaid
see them at once for I want to pay my
duty or debt. Please send me
a list of the accounts if any in your
possession unpaid. Is money plenty
or scarce or middling. Could you
buy timber and how cheap for cash.
What did the Charrington lot go for.
Some one I sent me a copy
of the Express containing the notice of
Sail also the Presidents Message.
If your society will put up the
fence around my lot I will pay for
the breaking of 10 acres and give the
of it for 2 year or until I
want it myself or I will pay in
cash for the breaking of the half of
any smaller amount that my be
fenced. What are my Stears worth?
We are just Starting for rebel lines
Yours Eber
