Dear Sister
I have
just had the pleasure of reading your
interesting letter if found me enjoying
myself firstrate I never enjoyed myself
better in my life than I do now
and I hope that my letter will find
you the same. I am glad that you
like your school so well. The young
folks in our neighborhood must be pretty
well cleared out. Oh I am glad that
I
[ ? ] there. I was down town yesterday
to see some rebel prisoners I tell you
they were a pretty rough looking set
but they seemed to feel pretty well
they send that they were glad that
they were taken for they were tired
of fighting and marching and while
I was down town I found some one
that I knew I who do you
spose it was well I guess that
you cant spose who it was so I will
tell you who it was it was Pealey
Swan he is in charge of a squad
of men getting out timeber. He is
same old sixpence that he always
was. I hope just been out drilling
this afternoon for the first time with
out guns oh I dont like to do it
for it is
[ ? ] wether down here now
but not so
[ ? ] as I expected to
find it. It is cold enough nights
for a fellow wants to good blankets
over him every night. George got a
letter from ma to day she said that
they were going to send us a bore and
that they they were giving to the Rappids
the next day to express it through
you may look for my picture in my
next letter for the pay master is here
and we have signed the pay rolls they
have payed Co B and they are
paying Co C and I expect that they
will us off tomorrow and I thought wouldent
wait to send it in this letter for fear some
thing might happen so that I should
have to
[ ? ] to long. I havent heard from
[ ? ] folks but I wrote to them
a long time ago I guess that they couldn’t have got
it. I was over to the twenty first reg
the other day and I saw the first Lieut
Biglow and 2
nd Hamilton and sink
Vanderhoof and Charley Dickerson and
Albert Monroe and Bud Blakely and they were
all well and I tell you Abe looks
firstrate with shoulder strap on
I think it is a pitty that you hadent
a little more paper so that you could
have written a little more but never mind
I will send you some paper in this letter
for them are just the letters I like to
get but the boys had a great time
laughing about my news paper they
thought that I had better
get a furlough to read it oh I
tell you we have got a jolly set
set of boys in our tent and they
are good boys to. Supper is ready
and I must go to sit now.
Supper is over and I am going to
finish my letter if they is no
preventing
[ ? ] Well mett
I think this war is going to end
before a year from this time. Oh dear
I cant think of any thing to
write that will interest you so
so I will bid you good by
excuse all mistakes and and write
as often as you can and by so
doing you will oblige your brother
Sabe the rest of the boys are all
well give my best respects to Miss
