Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: George Thomas, Philip H. Sheridan, William S. Rosecrans, William T. Sherman Waterloo Ala Jan the 14 1865 Dear Uncle as I have a little spare time I thought that I would improve it writing to you we went into camp here on the 2d of Jan and had orders to fix up winter quarters and have got evry thing fixed up quite comfortable if they would only let us stay but that seems to be too much farther to do there is a report in camp that we have orders to move to travel springs 70 miles up the river towards Florence we had just got evry thing rigt to spend the Winter here most of us had got huts built of logs ar boards and little fire plaxes built and now to do and leave them before we have got them faily done is enough to prevoke any one some of the bay say they will never do any thing but pitch there tents again but I will bet that they will scarcly be out of their saddles in the next camp until they will be tearing down some bodys board [   ?   ] ar barn to build shebangs as they call them as I am writing I can hear the band serenading our brigadier General that is a pretty sure sign that we will leave before long the weather here since we have been in camp chas been quite fine but on the march it was very wet and rainy the last day of the fight the 16th it rained all day the rant of the rebel army at Nashville was the [   ?   ] complete that I ever witnessed the road from the field of battle to Franklin was stream with muskets and equipage of evry kind and Pulaski they threw three pieces of cannon in the river and the road was stream with artillery ammunition others is a great many of them getting sick of the fun they have been beaten at every point Sherman has gone clear through the confederacy and taken Savannah one of their most important ritties and rosenerans in Missouri and Sheridan in Virginia Thomas at Nashville and Burnbridge in east Tennessee have all gained most splendid victories over their oponents in each rose capturing most of the artillery and train of their opponents but there goes the take and I must close my love to all the folks from your Nephew Thomas Wasson Ps direct via Nashville
