Regiment: 1st Michigan Light Artillery Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Mayfield Aug 6th Dear brother and sister it has been a long time since I have written as many as 2 leters to but have received no answer I wrote to you some time before Dear mother died nety tells me you did not get it I was sory for that I wanted you to see her befor she died she died with a firm trust in god see[  ?  ] to long for the time to come we miss her very much I will send you a lock of hair cant you and Net come out this fall my children have grown some since you some then Jesse is as tall as his father Rosa is my hight and Olive is taller John is you will get your family group picture [  ?  ] and send to me I will send you our Rosa I married and lives 17 miles from here [  ?  ] has married a real nice fellow his name is Walter Naghtengale thare is not mutch sickness around here now thare has been a case of small pox a few miles north of us we have had a very rainy week lots of grown wheat we have not heard from Elias or James in quite a while I should like to see you all please write with soon love to all sister Debby [On Envelope:] Mr John C.
