Lieutenant: I would respectfully through you, tender my resignation as 2nd Lieuten- ant in this Regiment. My reasons for taking this Step are as follows: When I entered the Service three years since, it was with the understanding that that period – three years – would be all that would be required of me, and my matters of family and business were arranged with a view to a return home at the expiration of my term of Service. To remain in the Service for a greater period would cause me a great pecuniary loss. I would, therefore, respectfully ask that this resignation be accepted.
