May 30th 1865 Dear Mett I received your letter of the twenty second yesterday and was very glad to hear from you I am well yet and waiting very patiently to start home we dont know when we will go yet. thare is a thousand and one reports but none of them afical, one is that Shermans Army is going to Louisville to be muster- ed out. but I dont believe it yet, I am inhopes to get home by the fourth of July but I dont know as I will. If I dont I guess I can have one of our own, I would like to be thare to visit your school first rate and see you as a teacher I received a letter from Nettie the other day she appeares to very well contented in her own capaseaty as base housekeeper. I havent had any letter from mother in a long while Nettie said she was still getting better I suppose I must tell you something of our trip from Raliegh here we left thare the 29 of April and marched to Richmond we laid over thare two days so I had quite a chance to go through the town I saw Libby Prision Castle thunder and the Cappital thare is a splendid status of Washington thare we marched through the city on revied from thare we marched to Alexandra ([  ?  ]) of Fredricksburg we was on the great Review of the 24 the city was crowded with visitors from all stater, all mast, to be the [  ?  ] Armier and especialy Shermans most of the men wore thur old clothes right the [  ?  ] of the Potoma army with their clean clothes white gloves and paper collars we are camped on this side of the river now I was down town yester day and went through the Cappitall and Pattent office they are both very nice buildings the Cappital is by far the nicest building I ever saw. Washington is more of a city than I ever thought it was. it is pretty bussy now with so many Soldiers here but I hope they will soon be thimed out they are discharge ing some now. the boys are all well from our neighborhood Sabin is well and tough as ever now I dont know what I shall do to finish out my letter for I cant think of any thing to write. so I guess I shall have to stop I shall have to hury to get it done for to days mail you havent said word about Mary B in a long time I hardly know whether she is in the Land of the liveing yet or not if she is give her my best respects. I guess for the want of something to write I shall have to stop. very respectfuly yours in haste write soon and direct Washington D.C.
