Regiment: 6th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: State of Michigan St Joseph County ss. Personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County Mrs Jane Roar to me well known who being duley sworn deposes and says she the mother of Francis Roar who was a private in the 6th Regt of Mich Vols Cavalry The Company to which he belonged she is not informed. That her said son volunteered as she is informed at Jackson Mich. some time in the month of January 1864 that they were ordered to Washington and her said son was taken with the measels and died at U.S. Genl Hospital Alex. Va. April 5th 1864.  That a short time before his death he wrote her a caused a letter to be written that he had sent her some money (which letter is enclosed) That her said son could not write, and she believes the letter was written by the Mr Jones who the Surgeon certifies her with to have had money of her sons to send to this deponent She makes this affidavit for the purpose of having said Jones pay stoped and said money paid over to the deponent. That her sons name is Franklin but he may have enlisted as Francis. That her son had a watch also which she is informed was taken by this same comrad Jones.
