Regiment: 13th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp at the 13th Michigan Infantry on Lookout Mountain Georgia May 13th Dear Sister I received your kind and welcom letter in due time and I was glad to hear from you and glad to hear that you was well I am well as well I got the picture all rite in Company with your letter I fot one from dan white the mail does not come very regular now they are fighting in front every day we could hear the artilery all day yest erday and I have hurd some guns this morning the old brigade that I used to belong to was all cut up at tunel hill Mary I think this sumer will wind up the war but I did not think it would when I inlisted this last time when you write tell me if you have hurd from george lately as the little boys in Canarda I donot know when eve will get our pay but I think it will not bee until the first of July this Spring campain will bee a hard on the picket duty here is not very hard but I have nothing to read thare is no papers comes so it makes it very lonesome Mary if you will send me some weekly paper I will pay you for it when I get my pay but I cannot now for I am about broke I am a going over to the lake to day so I will have to write a short letter this time the boys was all rite in Co B 19th Mich when they passed through here the boys that is the vetrans is all rite in our company george is all rite but he has not had a letter for a long time I guess his Julia has forgoton him but you [ ? ] tell any tales out of school george and I are a going to explore the mountain so I must close hoping you will excuse this poor written letter I remain as ever your friend and brother Walter Pullman to my sister Mrs F. A. Pullman george would not wait until I finished my letter so I have got back and I will give you the details of our expidition we took some coffee along and thought we would get some butter and milk we went [ ? ] to the lake it is [ ? ] by springs on the top of the mountain and runs down through a small hallow in the mountain about 20 rods from the lake the water falls about one hundred feet and strikes on a flat rock it is as prety a site as niagra falls when the sun shines you can stand on a cliff and see a beautiful rain bow it is a beautiful site to see from the lake we went about a mile and came to a clearing in on corner of it stood a log house we went in and saw an old woman with the tobacco juice runing down each corner of her mouth and snuff a droping from her nose we asked her if she had any butter to traid for coffee she said she had no butter but she had some milk so we got our canteens filed and then we asked her if she would sell us some onions they had some nice ones in the gardain so we went out and cook told her he would hilp her pull some he told her to whisle when he got ten cents worth so he pulled all he could hold in his arm and she could not whistle then we started for camp and got to camp at one oclock tired and hungry I must stop so good by Write Soon Direct to Chattanooga Tenn Co.
