Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Grand Rapids Oct 19th Dear Father I received your letter this morning and was very glad to hear from you the boys are all well and in good spirits there is some 24 of us on guard to day on guard to take care of horses we have to take our turn as well as the rest we have got some of our clothing we have got our shirts & drawers & hats & shoes & stockings David, Fancher said he saw you in Detroit I wrote home twice last week & once to libbie but I have not got any answer accept the one from you we cant tell when we shall leave here they keep telling when we shall leave but we dont seam to go. I some think we shall go next week but I don’t know for certain Frank Hooker has not been sworn in yet and I dont think he will be if he can get out of it we have to come out on dress parade every day 1200 men looks pretty well some have got their uniform, I suppose our folks are all well if they was not perhapps they would write.
