Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: John H. Morgan Head Quarters Co M Detachment 2nd Michigan Castillian Springs Cav Tenn. Dec 14th 1862. Dear Father It has been some time since I have heard from home and wishing to learn how you all are getting along I thought I would write a few lines this morning. we have had a long and wearisome march since the last time I wrote you at ,Glasgow Kentucky, we arrived at Hartsville the day after the fight they had with Morgan and our men got whipped rather bad, it was on account of two regiments of Ohio men that thought it best to run than fight, we are expecting a fight here evry day but I dont think Old Morgan will venture to pitch into us there is onley three Brigades at this place but a plenty more in eight miles of us at Gallatin. I did not intend to write but a few lines this time. the boys are all well and hearty as buck, you will find at (J.C. Frincks, Banker) at Marshall fifteen Dollars which I sent yesterday morning by express to you Lew sent the same to his father. we thought it rather unsafe to send it by mail I think it will go through all right with a little trouble. we are onley about 25 miles from Nash- ville now and expect to be there before long. I am afraid they wont get us back to the Regiment again very soon at least (Gen) Hall, said he would resign if they took us away from him, we go ttwo months pay yesterday morning. give my best respects to all, Yours Truly Chas.
