Regiment: 7th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Camp near fort washington harrisburg PA August the 11 Dear wife inow sit down to rite a few lines to you to let you know that Iam well at present hopeing these few lines may find you the same icame to this place last monday but ihave not had achance to rite until now iam detailed as cook and three of us has to cook for 120 men and it keeps us buzy about all the time iwant you to rite to me as soon as you can for idont know how long ishal stay here it may be one day and it may be three months isent you 20 dollars in my last letter and iwant know whether you got it or not iment to sent 20 more in this but iam whare icant draw Clothing and ihad to buy some so icant send you but 10 and if you can get the wheat thashed you had better sell it to pay up for the cows ithink it comes due the 28 of this month it will be about 30 dollars but ishall be payed off again time enough to pay for the steers and if you cant pay it with the wheat try to sell some of the cows and make araise of money enough to save part of them it is almost dinner time and imust close my letter for this from your affectionate and absent husband George Phelps direct to george Phelps 2 co of [ ? ] Camp near fort washington harrisburg PA care of Lieutenant Smith
