Regiment: 15th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Head Quarters 15th Mich Vet Vol Inft East Point Thursday Sept. 15th 1864 Friend Georg Leonard After Hearing From Henry Upthegrove where you was and where to Direct a letter to you I will write to you for George I have not forgoten you and would Have written to you long Before this if I had knew where you was I did write to you and Directed to Detroit to the Invilid Corps But I guess you never recieved my letter I am well and In the Best of Spirits and have Been all through the Campaign and I have been with the regiment Ever since you left I tell you we had a hard time on this campaign But I have been one of the Luckey ones although I have been in the hottes Place I ever was in but came out all right and I feel Thankfull for it while one of our company have lost their lives been fetterly is Dead He was wounded on the 28th of July and Aferwould died of his wound He was wounded In the Thigh and Broke the bone all to Peaces and he would not consent to have his leg Ampitated and he died and Ed Hawley was wounded a short time after in the Head over the left eye and I hear he has gone home on furlough Jack Simpson was wounded in the Head on the 22d of July and he has gone home on Furlough and Als a new recruit was Killed on the 22d of July I believe that is all that has been hurt to amount to in our Company our regiment numbers one hundred and sixty or seventy at Preasant when we left Chattanoog we numbered About four or five hundred So you can see we have lost a good many men But a good many are sick in Hospital George How glad I would be to see you I wanted to see you when I was home but I had to go away Before you go ther when I was home on Furlough I did not have have time to Go and see all the foulks I did not get a chance to go and see your foulks which I would like to have Done Verry Much But George you know how it was our Folks wanted me to Be there the most of the time and I could not hardley get away to go and see my sister So I took my mother with me I had a first rate time and injoyed my self First rate onely I would have like it if my Furlough had been thirty days longer I will tell you that John Smith the Fife Major was killed Before we crossed the Chattahoochie River and we mourn His loss for John was a good Boy and we feel his loss and I will now tell you that I am mustered as Chief Musitioner and therefore I dont stay with company F any more I draw rations at the Quartermasters well George it makes quite a difference in my Pay for now I get $22 per month from the First of July well George my Paper is most filled and I will have to bring my letter to a close by telling you to write soon Give my Best Respects to your folks and this is from your Friend untill Death Hiram D Parker to Sargt G H Leonard P.S Direct your letters to Hiram D Parker 15th Mich VV Inft 1st Brig 4th Division 15th A C Atlanta GA
